The PRO 3e is the world’s first microprocessor controlled aquarium filter, and it comes equipped with an assortment of advanced and innovative features. The Constant Flow feature monitors increased blockage and automatically compensates to maintain your settings. This guarantees constant through-flow and long intervals between cleaning. The electronic Output Control allows you to determine your preferred flow setting based on the requirements of your aquarium (from minimal output to maximum boost), and the Stream Function creates a wave-like effect by continuously alternating the flow rate to simulate living conditions of a variety of freshwater and saltwater fish. Other features include a 12-Hour Bio Function, which changes flow rates every 12 hours to simulate day/night cycles, and an Electronic Air Indicator that performs a variety of diagnostics on your filter and makes automatic corrections. All together, this high-tech, high performance filter will make a welcome asset to any freshwater or saltwater aquarium. (Suitable for aquariums up to 110 gallons and produces a 435 g/h output).
This latest Eheim design incorporates all the great features, Lock Clamps, Self Primer, Shut-off Valves for hoses, multiple Media Baskets, plus an exciting new electronic Touch Pad Control system that offers the following options:
- Output Flow Control, 6 adjustable levels and 1 MAX flow setting
- Constant Flow Rate, when set at one of the 6 adjustable levels, the electronic controls monitor the flow rate and adjust the output to maintain a constant flow rate.
- Bio Stream function, will alternate two different flow levels for wave function providing a more natural environment
- 12 hour Bio function, will alternate two different flow rates in 12 hour cycles. For Planted Aquariums, we recommend having a higher flow rate at night to help oxygenate the water.
- Service Indicator will monitor the cleaning cycle and indicate the time remaining until the next cleaning.
- Auto Air Out, electronic program will eliminate any air that accumulates under the motor head
- Electronic error management indicates any irregularities and attempts to rectify the problem.
Also new is a top layer “prefilter” to mechanically clean the water and lengthen cleaning cycles for the Ehfimech and Ehfisubstrat media. Media is not included with filter.

The Eheim Pro 3E 2076 has 3 media baskets while the 2078 has 4. Each media basket holds 2 liters of filter media. These units come with one blue and one white filter media pad. The 2076 requires 2 liters of Ehfimech and 4 liters of Ehfisubstrat Pro. The 2078 requires 2 liters of Ehfimech and 6 liters of Ehfisubstrat Pro.
